AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This is La Fontaine's own correspondence. A well known set of letters he wrote to his wife describing his 1663 journey from Paris to Limousin (accompanying his uncle, Jannart, who had been exiled there). They're vivid, witty style is as interesting as the biographical / travel content. With copper engravings by Gérard Ambroselli.

This was published by Société des Médecins Bibliophiles - a French bibliophile society (founded in 1921) made up of medical doctors with an interest in fine printing, who commissioned limited illustrated editions of literary classics for their membership.

Limited to only 150 total copies, 100 of which were on papier vélin and reserved for named members of the Sociéte. This copy was for Dr Maxime Loup.

Cream slipcase (good, strong condition with a little marking only). Inside is a stiff card folder, with a map of the routes in the book pasted to the boards. In very nice condition, with a touch of foxing only.

Grey soft covers inside in excellent condition. The work itself is loose in gathers. Throughout in excellent, clean condition with very light occasional foxing. Nice strong impressions of the engravings. Printed in black and red.

An excellent copy of a very scarce edition. No copies for sale at the time of listing.

116 pages. 21 x 15.5 cm
