Description from the seller
Three-language edition with map inserts – Versailles Treaty 1919 – historically interesting contemporary edition of the peace terms of Versailles from 1919, with the complete treaty text presented in parallel in French, English, and German.
The extensive treaty includes, among other things, provisions on the League of Nations, the new borders of Germany, the political arrangements for Europe, German rights and interests outside Germany, military, naval, and aviation-related provisions, prisoners of war, sanctions, as well as further economic and territorial regulations.
At the end you will find the dating Versailles, 28 June 1919, as well as the printed reproduction of the names of the participating representatives, including Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau, Arthur James Balfour, and Hermann Müller.
Particularly interesting are the preserved large-format map inserts, including as visible in the photographs:
Map No. 1 – Ouest / Allemagne / Germany
Map No. 2
Carte No. 3 – Slesvig
Carte No. 4 – Dantzig
Also present is the contemporary brochure “What Everyone Should Know About the Peace Treaty – The Peace Treaty in 101 Demands,” published by the Reichsbürgerrat, Berlin.
The maps and the additional brochure are located in the rear inner pocket of the folder.
Clearly age- and wear-related. The outer folder or binding is heavily rubbed, with losses, tears and creases at the edges and corners; stains and discolorations are also present. The paper is browned with age. The binding shows noticeable signs of use. The main text is nevertheless largely legible. The map inserts likewise show age-related signs of wear. The exact state of completeness has not been collated. Please note the numerous photographs as part of the condition description.
Dated: 1919.
As a historical document of the Treaty of Versailles and the political reordering of Europe after World War I, the combination of a three-language treaty text, map material, and an additional contemporary information brochure is particularly worthy of collecting.
