Statue, Vintage polychroom houten vogelbeeld - 33 cm - Wood - 1960

Very decorative, heavy-duty carved bird figure, entirely hand-carved from solid wood and polychromed. The elegant bird, depicted as a stylized heron/crane, features a beautiful S-shaped curved neck with the long beak resting against the body.
Especially the carved wings are attractively executed: the feather pattern is carved in the wood and then finished by hand in subdued shades of green, blue, red, and ocher. The integrated wooden base and visible wood grain emphasize the artisanal character.
The elongated, stylized form shows Art Deco influences, combined with the traditional decorative vocabulary of Indonesian/Balinese wood carving. Similar bird motifs are common throughout the 20th century within the Balinese woodcarving tradition.

The surface has an attractive natural vintage patina and light signs of use and aging that suit the character of the object. The combination of solid wood, polychromy and the sculptural curved neck makes it a striking interior piece for a classic, colonial, eclectic or boho interior.
