Description from the seller
Bottega Pietro Longhi (1701-1785) "La dichiarazione d'amore" oil on canvas, 71.5x49 cm without frame, 80x56 cm with frame... Extraordinary eighteenth-century painting that, for its exquisitely refined execution, stands clearly apart from the usual workshop replicas, suggesting the direct paternity of the master Pietro Longhi. Since the original invention of this famous composition—historically known through the engraving by Jean-Baptiste Flipart—is considered lost, the superb quality of this canvas certifies it as an autograph prototype or a precious rendering executed under the direct and personal supervision of Longhi. The work shines for the masterful virtuoso rendering of the silky reflections in the fabrics and for the very fine psychological study of the faces, elements typical and exclusive to the hand of the Venetian master. An artwork of exceptional historical-critical importance, destined for the most prestigious collections... The frame is offered as a gift therefore we do not accept complaints nor do we consider ourselves responsible for any damage during shipping... We do not ship outside Europe.
