Description from the seller
Important and Rare Grand Faience Plate “Kubachi” Blue and White – Safavid Era, Iran, 16th-17th Century – Diameter 27.7 cm
Splendid and authentic Safavid-era siliceous faience dish (16th-17th century), belonging to the famous group of Kubachi ceramics.
The hollow basin is finely painted in cobalt blue under a transparent glaze, depicting an elegant stylized floral decoration composed of a central bouquet surmounted by floral and foliate motifs, framed by vegetal motifs in an arc. The flared and festooned rim is rhythmically punctuated by a continuous frieze of large floral compartments (daisies and stylized flowers) alternating with herb and foliage motifs.
The whole piece shows a network of cracks typical of the glaze of this historical period. The reverse of the dish is decorated with discreet stylized floral motifs in blue, and the circular base bears an old collection label numbered (4112 / C.J.) attesting to its provenance.
