AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Large and Heavy Ancient Animal Sculpture – Brass and Bronze Horse on Wheels (TOY / RITUAL) – India, 19th / Early 20th Century – approx. 7.2 kg

Remarkable and heavy solid-brass horse sculpture (lost-wax casting technique), equipped with four decorative wheels and mounted on metal axles. This type of traditional Indian piece, at the crossroads of a votive ritual object and an antique folk toy, was often used during festivities or offerings (the wheels allowing it to be moved or rolled in processions).

The horse body is richly adorned with relief-cut harnesses (bead necklace, bridle, decorated saddle). The four solid wheels are finely molded and engraved with geometric and star-shaped motifs. The ancient patina is superb, oscillating between the golden reflections of polished brass from use and the oxidized areas from time.
