Wonderful and meaningful work attributed to the painter Odoardo Borrani (Pisa, August 22, 1833 – Florence, September 14, 1905) painted in oil on canvas in good condition.
The painting measures 45.5 x 31.5 cm.
The frame is original from the period.
Odoardo Borrani moved to Florence with his family in 1840. As a child he began his apprenticeship as a restorer with Gaetano Bianchi. In 1853, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts and in the meantime drew from life in the countryside around Florence with Telemaco Signorini and Vincenzo Cabianca. Thanks to that experience, Borrani painted views and landscapes of country scenes and medieval architectures with great clarity and luministic structure.
In 1855 he achieved his first success with “A Night at the Pergola Theatre” and he continued to paint with bright colors and a predominance of red.
In 1959, Borrani retired to the mountains of San Marcello Pistoiese with Sernesi where they produced many paintings that were awarded at the Florence Exhibition of 1861.
From 1865 to 1872, Borrani moved to a small house in the countryside, outside Florence, away from distractions. Here were born the paintings that place Borrani among the avant-garde of the blot-and-brush painting movement.
Borrani lived from his private painting school until his death, which occurred in Florence on September 14, 1905.
