First edition of this monumentally influential literary journal, collecting the complete run of the Erste Folge (Issues 1–3) bound together in a single contemporary volume. Edited and curated by the legendary Austrian symbolist poet and playwright Hugo von Hofmannsthal, this elite journal was printed by the legendary Bremer Presse. Widely considered the "Queen of German Private Presses" for its unparalleled typographic excellence, the press utilized custom-designed, elegant typefaces. This first series features premier, landmark contributions from the absolute giants of European modernism—including essays by Rudolf Borchardt, Rudolf Alexander Schröder, Max Mell, and Hofmannsthal himself among others. Printed in limited numbers (between 1,100 and 1,200 copies per issue). Conceived by Hugo von Hofmannsthal in the dark, inflationary aftermath of World War I, Neue Deutsche Beiträge ("New German Contributions") was designed not merely as a magazine, but as a sanctuary for the highest standards of European conservative humanism and intellectual rigor. Condition:
Rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine. The paper covering of the boards is rubbed off in places (see photos). Some spotting to the edges. Ex Libris sticker on the front pastedown endpaper. Pencil markings on the recto of the front free endpaper. Pencil markings on the verso of the back free endpaper. Hardly any browning and spotting throughout. The pages are fresh, crisp, and clean, and the binding is solid. Overall, a handsome copy in very good condition.
