Here we have an extremely large however wonderful oil on canvas 19th Century English School. The artwork depicts Prospero and Miranda in a scene from William Shakespeare’s play ‘The Tempest’. Prospero the exile is shown in rich red robes with blue /gold cloak holding a staff in hand a symbol of his magical powers. Miranda his daughter is wearing a flowing pale dress looking outward with wonder and compassion. Her hand on heart captures her innocence and empathy as she witnessed the shipwreck at the play’s beginning. This neoclassical romantic style piece has superb quality throughout including a heavy wide gilt frame. A brilliant antique piece which would grace any wall in your home.
