Louis Vuitton - sac plat - Handbag

LV returns to the scene with the Celebrating Monogram project, entrusting its most classic monogram canvas bags to high-profile artists and fashion designers who reinterpret the house's logo print. This time it's Rei Kawakubo's turn.

The designer became acquainted with Vuitton bags through the maison's first store in Japan in 1978, and since then has appreciated their allure, which today she seeks to subvert with a very personal approach.

The designer applies the refined yet unconventional aesthetic that also characterizes Comme des Garçons, of which she is the creator. The model she chose to renew is the Sac Plat, the most linear bag among Vuitton's collections. The designer has literally perforated it with large, asymmetrical holes.

A radical and very particular approach, there’s no denying it, especially because the holes are real and you can see through. Inside the bag, a canvas pouch has been provided to hold objects so they don’t fall through the holes.

The idea behind this creation is to break with the classic monogram schemes, which are broken up in search of something new and different while starting from a traditional and classic piece, a true icon.
