Fahrendes Volk, an impressionist oil painting from the 1940s (1943) by Robert Breitwieser, France, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
Atmospherically dense oil painting on cardboard by the painter Robert Breitwieser (1899-1975).
Breitwieser, born and died in Mulhouse, is regarded as one of the most significant representatives of the Alsatian School of the 20th century. After study stays in Stuttgart and Munich, he undertook travels across Europe. Influenced by the principles of the artist associations Der Blaue Reiter and Die Brücke, he simplified his compositions and developed a deep interest in the expressiveness of color. His works are today in various museums and are documented in various publications (including a detailed catalog raisonné). (The pictured books and photos are used for illustration only and are not part of the auction.)
The present painting from 1943 powerfully depicts a resting group of wagoners with their coaches and animals. It is signed and dated on the back. Breitwieser typically signed and dated the back of his cardboard paintings. For comparison I have appended a few photos of other works at the end. See:

The external dimensions of the accompanying contemporary frame are 38 x 50.5 cm. The painting is in very good condition. Traceable shipping via DHL.
