Graf C.G. Wrangel - Das Buch vom Pferde - 1902

Standard work in hippological history: Das Buch vom Pferde by the well-known Swedish horse expert Count Carl Gustav Wrangel.

This concerns the very extensive 4th, revised and expanded edition from 1902, published by the publishing house Schickhardt & Ebner (Konrad Wittwer) in Stuttgart.

This two-volume work is regarded as one of the most complete encyclopedias on the horse from the early 20th century. It provides a historical overview of horse breeding, breed science, anatomy, care, and the art of riding.

The work is exceptionally richly illustrated with a total of 918 wood engravings and 20 artistic plates distributed across both parts.

Condition report:
Bindings: Original, very decorative half-leather Jugendstil publisher bindings with corners. The spines and corners feature handsome blind-embossed relief (flower and leaf motifs) and clear gilt impression. The boards are covered with sturdy olive-green/brown linen with a leather-texture relief. The book block is marbled. Light, normal shelf wear at the edges and corners consistent with age, but the bindings and spines are in solid, sturdy condition.

The interior is in a neat, fresh antiquarian condition. The title pages are clean and show no major damage.
