AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Magnificent copy of the adventure and aeronautics novel The Aviators of the Andes, written by Marc Janin and abundantly illustrated by Raymond Tournon. Published by Boivin & Cⁱᵉ (old Furne bookstore) in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century (circa 1912).

The volume is presented in its superb publisher's red percaline binding, highly decorative, adorned on the first cover with an imposing polychrome and gold design depicting an aeroplane flying over the Andes as well as a scene of exploration in a pirogue.

** Condition of preservation :
- Boards and gilding: The first board is particularly well preserved, with vivid colors and fresh, bright gilding. The second red board remains clean. The three gilded edges retain a very beautiful shine.
- Spine and binding: The spine remains complete with its title and gold tooling. Note: as visible in the last photo, the percaline at the level of the upper edge of the spine shows a beginning detachment/fissure along the joint, with no major loss of material. The overall structure of the binding remains solid.
- Interior: Interior well preserved, very clean period paper with a nice appearance.

A fine antique copy, very representative of the great illustrated bindings of adventure stories from the early part of the century.

Fast and careful shipping.
