Antique Belgian handmade needlepoint painting of a terrier in aristocratic dress, framed in a heavy 4.5 cm deep gilded wooden frame by the Antwerp frame maker De Leeuw Fr., in very good vintage condition.
Description from the seller
Unique Antique Handmade Needlepoint Painting in an Exclusive Gilded Frame – De Leeuw Framing (Antwerp).
for the true enthusiast of antiques and interior design.
For sale: a stunning, hand-made needlepoint (Gobelin/canvas embroidery) painting of a Terrier in classic, aristocratic attire. This atmospheric artwork combines the warm vintage charm of artisanal craftsmanship with an exceptionally valuable frame.
The Frame: A Historic Masterpiece
The absolute centerpiece of this object is the heavy, deep wooden frame (no less than 4.5 cm deep!). This frame is fully gilded and features refined, classical carving with an elegant pearl edge.
On the back is the original, authentic label from the legendary Antwerp framer 'De Leeuw Fr.' (Turnhoutsebaan 351, Borgerhout). This prestigious family workshop was founded in 1920 and, after almost a century of pure craftsmanship, finally closed its doors in 2017. This makes the frame not only a beautiful decorative element with a stunning natural patina, but also a rare piece of Flemish heritage that is no longer produced today. Even the frame itself is a precious possession for connoisseurs.
The Artwork: Detailed Handcraft
The painting itself is a fine example of detailed handiwork, handwoven with wool on canvas. It depicts a dog (Terrier-type) with a very lively expression and beautiful color nuances in the fur, finished with a contrasting red bow.
This type of anthropomorphic art is currently highly sought after in exclusive vintage, bric-a-brac (brocante) and cottagecore interiors.
Specifications
Total outer dimensions: approx. 36.5 cm x 35.5 cm
Depth/Thickness of the frame: approx. 4.5 cm (45 mm)
Embroidery dimensions (inner): approx. 24.5 cm
Origin: Antwerp, Belgium (Lijstenmakerij De Leeuw Fr.)
Condition: In very good vintage condition with a beautiful, authentic character. The wood shows minimal, natural aging traces that attest to its originality.
A perfect focal point for the wall, as a solitary piece or as part of a gallery wall.
