Splendid work in mixed media on paper by the impressionist master Eugene Giraud

Eugène Giraud was born in Paris on August 9, 1806, in a modest family. He quickly showed a predisposition for drawing.
He studied painting in the workshop of Louis Hersent, then engraving, in that of Joseph Richomme. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts from 1821 to 1826 and left after winning the Prix de Rome for engraving in 1826.
He exhibited for the first time, at the Salon of 1831, three landscapes and three drawings.
The 1839 Salon presentation of the diptych La Permission de dix heures marked a turning point in his career. A major experience that would shape part of his work and his career was the trip to Spain (begun in July 1846) with his friend Adolphe Desbarolles. There he met Alexandre Dumas and his son, Louis Boulanger, Auguste Maquet in Madrid in October. At the beginning of January 1847 the same company organized a trip to North Africa, to Tunis.
Giraud drew inspiration from this journey for the rest of his career.
He received the Legion of Honor in 1851. He was promoted to the rank of officer in 1866.
Eugene Giraud died in the 17th arrondissement of Paris on December 29, 1881.
