Rubens Capaldo (1908-1998) - La musa

Rubens Capaldo, born in 1908 in Paris, soon moved with his family to Naples. He briefly attended the evening classes at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, but decided to drop out to assist his father, a majolica tile artisan, who continued to carry on after his death. From the age of twelve to twenty-seven he worked as a ceramicist, but his true passion remained painting, which he practiced in his spare moments and even at night.

Although he never earned any academic degree, he taught for many years at the Institute of Fine Arts of Benevento, until 1973.

Rubens, self-taught and prolific, painted diligently, dedicating his entire artistic life to an incessant search for perfection, never satisfied with his own creations and almost unaware of his own talent as well as of his position as a representative leading figure of Neapolitan art of the twentieth century. He died in Naples in 1998.
