Canada - Air Force - Military equipment - 1974

This is a military AN/ARC-52 UHF radio control unit (often referred to as the C-1607 or a similar variant). This type of avionics control panel was widely used from the 1950s and 1960s in various Western military combat aircraft, including the F-104 Starfighter, the F-4 Phantom, and the English Electric Lightning. Key features on the panel:MANUAL (Top): Knobs by which the exact UHF frequency in megahertz (MHz) can be manually set via the number windows.UHF COMM (Left): The large dial bottom-left with the numbers 1 through 26 is intended for quickly selecting preset channels.Preset/Mode switch (Right): A knob with positions:OFF: System off.T/R (Transmit/Receive): Normal communications mode (transmit and receive).T/R+G (Transmit/Receive + Guard): Transmits and receives on the selected frequency while also listening to the military emergency frequency (Guard, 243.0 MHz).ADF (Automatic Direction Finder): Switches the radio to the bearing mode for navigation.VOL & TONE (Right): Buttons for volume and audio tone/noise suppression (squelch).

Owned for years by us, purchased at an auction in Aberdeen (United Kingdom).
For years it has stood in a lit display cabinet with us, but now it’s time to make room.
A great opportunity for collectors and will surely not be out of place in a tough mancave.
It comes from an aircraft that was still in service, but it was time to replace it with a newer version. It was a module—you unscrew the 4 bolts, slide it out, and the new one in; in photo 13 you can see the connector. It has never been tested because I obviously don’t have the compatible connectors, but the unit contains two documents indicating which aircraft it came from and when it was last used.
All buttons work and turn as they should; I think if you have the right aircraft this module will fit in and work immediately and you can establish connections again.
