Description from the seller

The Angelus

By A. Gaudez (Out of Competition)

Rare and elegant patinated bronze sculpture depicting a young peasant woman in a moment of contemplation, hands joined and gaze delicately lowered. This work, titled The Angelus, reprises one of A. Gaudez's most emblematic models, whose name appears on the plaque on the base.

The quality of the modeling is distinguished by the finesse of the facial features, the fluid drapery of the robe, and a brown-gold patina that highlights every detail. Its circular, richly ornamented base provides a refined presence, whether in a collection or in a characterful interior.

Characteristics

- Artist: A. Gaudez (after the original model)
- Title: The Angelus
- Material: Patinated bronze
- Period: Late 19th – early 20th century
- Style: French academic sculpture
- Base: Circular, decorated with an original identification plaque
- Condition: Good overall condition, beautiful old patina and light signs of use consistent with its age.

A sculpture of great elegance, sought after for its timeless subject and authentic charm, ideal for lovers of French bronzes and antique decorative art.
