Lot of 43 original Spirou Mini-Récits magazines published between 1960 and 1964 by Dupuis, EO edition, featuring the title Mini-Récits with artist Peyo and various authors; magazines in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptional Lot of 43 Original SPIROU Mini-Stories (1960-1964) – Including No. 27 Peyo (The Smurfs)!
A fine, homogeneous set of 43 Mini-stories from the Mini-Bibliothèque Spirou, published between 1960 and 1964. These are the original period-print booklets, taken from the central pages of Le Journal de Spirou, folded and manually cut by their young reader at the time (no recent editor’s trimming).
The lot includes a magnificent numerical sequence covering the early part of this legendary collection, with an era-specific numbering jump inherent to the publisher’s issues (from No. 12 to No. 209).
Masterpiece included:
No. 27: The Egg and the Smurfs by PEYO (1960). A highly sought-after historic piece, marking the very first appearance of Grouchy Smurf!
The great masters of the Marcinelle School present in this lot:
Maurice Tillieux (No. 20 - La Vieille Tige)
Will & Rosy (No. 24 - Pépin et l'île Juillet)
Marcel Remacle (No. 69 - Barbe-Noire contre Nez-Bleu)
Paul Deliège & Maurice Rosy (Nos. 61 and 73 - Bobo s'évade)
But also Salvérius (future artist of The Blue Coats), Jidéhem, Lambil, Jacques Devos, Hubuc, Francis...
The lot ends with the rare documentary issues of the 1964 space conquest by Wim Dannau (Nos. 208 and 209 Mission: Alunir).
Condition:
The booklets have been read and handled; they are "as is" from the period with a beautiful authentic patina. Normal wear for these fragile small formats (scuffing on the covers, small creases or oxidation traces on the original staples, slight edge losses on some copies, notably No. 27 which remains fully complete). The interiors are overall very clean and the gags are clearly legible.
