Based on the photograph, I would describe it as a work by *Jean Calogero (Catania, 1922 – 2001)*, an Italian artist trained also within the Parisian milieu, known for a *surrealist, visionary and highly imaginative* painting. After studies in Catania, Calogero moved to Paris in the postwar period, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts and exhibited at the Galerie Hervé; in 1957 he received the Grand Silver Medal of the City of Paris.

The work presents a *fantastic and surreal vision of a port or urban environment*, built through a dense overlay of architectures, boats, mechanical structures and organic forms.

The composition is dominated by a palette of *ochre, browns, grays and beiges*, brightened by accents of *red, yellow, green and black*. In the center emerges a tall red vertical structure, almost a totemic element, around which a landscape populated by enigmatic shapes unfolds.
