Maurizio Valch (1972) - (XL) NEXUS STRATA

NEXUS concentrates one of Maurizio Valch's persistent questions: how a few presences can entirely alter the continuity of a territory. Inside STRATA, the dark green field stops being a passive background; it acquires the silent extension of a retained surface, pierced by three clear paths. The small red blocks do not occupy that space uniformly: they are placed at different heights, respond to distance and make visible a network without a single center.

Nothing ends up fixing the nature of those wavy lines. They can be read as boundaries, elevations, traces of a displacement or divisions barely sustained within the same expanse. Nor do the compact shapes reduce to signals. Their color makes them immediate, almost alert, but their lower dark zones introduce weight and a kind of descent. The work thus proposes a discreet tension between connection and separation: being related does not necessarily mean being united, and any proximity preserves a distance.

I am interested that a form can remain isolated and, even so, modify what surrounds it. I do not seek for these marks to explain a path nor that their relationships resolve into a recognizable figure. I work with the possibility that a surface preserves signs of passage, boundaries and presences that do not end up fully revealing themselves. Sometimes a minimal distance between two elements is enough for the whole territory to change meaning.

The work is sent unframed and unstretched, carefully rolled inside a protective tube to ensure safe delivery.
