Description from the seller
Important floral still life from ancient period, approx. 17th-18th century Italian.
Grande composizione con rose, tulipani, peonie, melograni e paesaggio architettonico archeologia .
Extraordinary and monumental floral still life of notable decorative and collecting impact, characterized by a richly composed arrangement of flowers, fruits and foliage, skillfully arranged on an elegant marble surface.
At the center of the scene dominates a sumptuous bouquet composed of large roses, peonies, tulips and flowers of various species, realized with a tactile and vibrant painting, rich in chromatic overlays and refined light transitions.
Particularly fascinating is the presence of opened pomegranates, traditional symbol of abundance and prosperity, painted with extraordinary chromatic intensity and great attention to the rendering of the seeds and pulp of the fruit.
The composition opens also toward a suggestive landscape on the right side, where an archaeological architectural element appears immersed in light, creating a scenographic depth that surpasses the traditional setup of a simple still life.
The work strikes for:
- exceptional compositional richness;
- large format and strong scenographic presence;
- quality of the painting material;
- ancient and particularly substantial chromatic paste;
- extraordinary botanical variety;
- presence of fruit and pomegranates;
- landscape background with architecture;
- evocative 17th-century atmosphere;
- important decorative and museum-like effect.
From the close-up images emerges a painting executed with overlapped brushstrokes, generous impasto and an extremely articulated construction of the petals.
The material preserves a notable three-dimensionality, especially in the large roses and the central flowers.
Even the support appears of particular interest, with an ancient textile structure and construction characteristics that merit direct technical investigation.
A work of great presence
This is not a simple floral decoration, but a composition conceived with great scenographic ambition, capable of furnishing as a protagonist a grand salon, a historic villa, an official residence or a prestigious private collection.
The monumentality of the bouquet, together with the depth of the landscape and the symbolic richness of the fruits, confers on the painting an extremely rare and sophisticated character.
Work to be subjected to specialist study
For stylistic characteristics, painting quality and compositional setup, the painting would merit an in-depth analysis by a specialist in Italian still life.
Work that presents touch-ups, restorations, color losses here and there due to its very aged canvas.
Measurements with frame: 84x71 cm
Measurements of the painting: 65x54 cm
Splendid and congratulations to the winner.
