Description from the seller
Urban Landscape
Interesting work from a European school of the 20th century, signed, depicting an urban landscape built through a marked geometrization of forms, stylistically positioned within post-Cubist figuration.
The composition presents a sequence of architectures, buildings and urban structures transformed by the artist into large geometric volumes. Rectangles, prisms and cylindrical forms overlap to construct a space in which architecture stops being merely a representative motif and becomes the true structural element of the painting.
Particularly interesting is the organization of perspective. The artist partially renounces traditional depth to arrange the buildings through a succession of vertical and horizontal planes, generating a landscape with a strong architectural character and almost abstract that, nevertheless, preserves enough figurative references to clearly recognize the urban environment.
The palette is sober and carefully balanced, dominated by ochres, greens, earth tones, blue-greys and pinkish hues, deliberately moving away from a strictly naturalistic representation of color. Each shade contributes to individualizing the different planes and volumes, reinforcing the constructive character of the composition.
The painting can be related to the different currents of geometric figuration and post-CCubism developed during the second half of the 20th century. The Cubist heritage is especially noticeable in the simplification of architectures, the reduction of elements to essential forms and the construction of space through volumes and chromatic surfaces.
At the same time, the work maintains a clear figurative identity and a close link to the modern urban landscape, occupying that intermediate territory between representation and geometric abstraction that characterized a significant part of European painting in the 20th century.
The almost total absence of human figures reinforces the silent and monumental character of the scene. The city appears transformed into a succession of architectural masses, giving the composition a serene, restrained and slightly metaphysical atmosphere.
The work is signed.
