Physiologie expérimentale, a two‑volume French edition of work by F. Magendie, published by Méquignon‑Marvis, père et fils in 1836 as another edition, bound in demi‑cuir with 1,084 pages (Tome I 456, Tome II 628) and illustrated with folding plates and diagrams in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Important work by François Magendie (1783-1855), one of the pioneers of French experimental physiology.
This fourth edition of 1836 succeeds the revised, corrected and enlarged third edition of 1833. The work, initially published in 1816, ranks among the landmark texts in the history of modern physiology.
Volume I: 456 pages.
Volume II: 628 pages.
That makes 1,084 pages for the two volumes.
Illustrated copy with plates and folding tables, including several remarkable anatomical plates devoted notably to the brain and to circulation. All the plates of the copy are present, distributed between the two volumes.
Old half-black leather bindings, spine with raised bands, titles and volumes in gold, marbled boards.
Very good internal condition for a work from 1836: fresh, clean paper, the text perfectly legible. The large folding plates are well preserved with their original creases. Some foxing, marks and signs of use typical for the age are visible. Bindings solid with some wear from handling.
