The Mart Signed Museum

For years, the project Where Are You Street Art? has told the journey of street art through authentic fragments of urban walls, symbolically bringing the street inside homes, galleries, and private collections.

With this new series, The Mart Signed Museum is born, a natural evolution of Mart Signed’s artistic research.

The project stems from a simple reflection: what happens to a work when it finds its definitive placement?

A museum protects it, preserves it, and hands it to the future, but at the same time it holds it back. It may remain hanging on the same wall for decades, observed by millions of people, without being able to continue its journey.

From this idea, an imaginary museum is born in which some works symbolically decide to escape.

Each piece appears as a fragment torn directly from the museum wall. Not only is the artwork taken away, but also a part of the wall that housed it, transforming the museum itself into an integral part of the work.

The collector does not simply buy a painting, but a fragment of The Mart Signed Museum, becoming the next stop in their journey.

The museum artwork

The wall, the frame, the museum plaque, and the other present elements are not mere decorative details.

They recreate a portion of the imaginary museum and are an integral part of the work.

The surface of the wall, the irregularities, the marks, and the material contribute to creating the contrast between the spontaneous language of street art and the orderly, institutional language of the museum space.

The work shown in the photographs is exactly the one that will be received by the collector. It will not be shipped as a copy, reproduction, or different artwork.

Materials and authenticity

The recovered materials are chosen to maintain a living connection with the original street art language.

Marks, irregularities, abrasions, surface variations, and natural imperfections are not defects but intentional elements and an integral part of the piece’s identity.

Each material preserves its own history and contributes to the work’s unrepeatable character.

The artwork is delivered ready to hang and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Mart Signed is an Italian street artist active internationally.
