The Mart Signed Museum

For years, the Where Are You Street Art? project has told the journey of street art through authentic fragments of urban walls, symbolically bringing the street inside homes, galleries, and private collections.

With this new series comes The Mart Signed Museum, a natural evolution of Mart Signed’s artistic research.

The project arises from a simple reflection: what happens to a work when it finds its definitive placement?

A museum protects, preserves, and hands it to the future, but at the same time it confines it. It may remain hung on the same wall for decades, seen by millions of people, without being able to continue its journey.

From this idea, an imaginary museum was born in which some works symbolically decide to break free.

Each piece appears as a fragment torn directly from the museum wall. Not only the artwork is taken away, but also a part of the wall that housed it, transforming the museum itself into an integral part of the artwork.

The collector does not merely acquire a painting, but a fragment of The Mart Signed Museum, becoming the next stop in their journey.

The museum artwork

The wall, the frame, the museum placard, and the other elements present are not mere decorative details.

They recreate a portion of the imaginary museum and are an integral part of the work.

The surface of the wall, the irregularities, the marks, and the material contribute to creating the contrast between the spontaneous language of street art and the orderly, institutional language of the museum space.

The piece shown in the photographs is exactly the one the collector will receive. It is not a copy, reproduction, or different artwork that will be sent.

Materials and authenticity

The recovered materials are chosen to keep alive the relationship with the original language of street art.

Signs, irregularities, abrasions, surface variations, and natural imperfections are not defects but intentional elements and part of the artwork’s identity.

Each material preserves its own history and contributes to the unrepeatable character of the work.

The work is delivered ready to hang and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

The journey of the artwork can continue even after purchase.

Collectors can share their piece on Instagram by tagging @martsigned and using the hashtag #MartSigned.

Works correctly tagged may be reposted by the artist through their channels, showing the different destinations reached by The Mart Signed Museum pieces and creating a direct connection between artist, collectors, and the public.

Mart Signed is an Italian street artist active internationally.

His works have been sold to private collectors in over 50 countries and are part of international collections.

His artistic research focuses on the relationship between street art, urban memory, recovered materials, and exhibition space.

The 10 works share the same artistic project and the same museum concept, but each retains its own physical and visual identity.
