Dmytro Pekhterev (1970) - Daisies and Cherries

Dmytro Pekhterev (b. 1970, Donetsk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian painter and volunteer based in Kyiv. His work is rooted in a contemporary realist approach, shaped by a sustained attention to colour, light, and the physical presence of everyday objects. Painting since 2000, Pekhterev has developed his practice through long-term independent study, drawing on books, visual culture, and the work of classical masters. His artistic path has unfolded across several places: after leaving Donetsk in 1997, he lived in Kharkiv and Crimea before settling in Kyiv in 2013. Working primarily with floral and still-life compositions, Pekhterev focuses on the relationship between natural forms, reflective surfaces, and the quiet structure of the picture plane. Flowers, fruit, glass, and ceramic vessels appear not simply as decorative motifs, but as subjects through which colour, texture, and atmosphere can be gradually constructed. Light plays a central role in his paintings. It defines volume, brings out the material character of objects, and creates a sense of stillness within the composition. Expressive brushwork remains visible throughout, balancing close observation with a direct and painterly response to the subject.
