An authentic late 19th to early 20th century Indian hand-carved wooden chest titled Large Rajasthani chest, measuring approximately 65 × 30 × 38 cm, with decorative rosette motifs, old iron fittings, provenance Privécollectie, in original unrestored condition.
Description from the seller
A distinctive hand-carved wooden chest with decorative rosette motifs and antique iron fittings.
The chest is made of solid wood and rests on four carved wooden feet. The front is richly hand-carved with large floral/geometric rosettes and smaller decorative motifs.
Fitted with an old metal lock plate and traditional iron hinge fittings. The artisanal construction is also clearly visible on the interior and underside.
Based on style and construction, the chest shows similarities to traditional Indian merchant/dowry chests, possibly from Rajasthan. The exact geographic origin and dating are not documented. The period 1850–1900 is therefore an approximate dating.
Dimensions: ca. 65 × 30 × 38 cm (W × D × H).
The chest is in authentic, unrestored condition and shows clear signs of age and use, including wear, discoloration, scratches and localized damage to the wood. There are several small holes visible that may indicate former woodworm activity; it has not been determined whether this activity is still present.
The old character, patina and fittings are preserved. Please examine the photos carefully; they form an important part of the description and show the condition of the object.
