Volume I: 1762-1817, 409 pages.
Volume II: 1818-1841, 467 pages.
Volume III: 1842-1851, 413 pages.
Volume IV: 1852-1866, 473 pages.
First collective edition of this major anthology, gathering the French poets of the 19th century, from post-Romanticism to symbolism: Chateaubriand, Lamartine, Hugo, Vigny, Musset, Baudelaire, Gautier, Verlaine, Mallarmé, Rimbaud, among others, depending on the volume.
Publisher’s full linen binding in gray with multicolored Art Nouveau decoration, beveled boards illustrated (allegory of poetry, iris) and spine with a floral motif, signed by the binder Engel, gilt edges. In-8, about 17.5 x 25 cm.
Condition: Binding to be restored for 2 volumes (see photos) nevertheless the interior is complete and clean. Portrait engravings inside.
Overall a rare and complete set in its illustrated publisher’s binding.
