Description from the seller
Title: Palimpsestus. 80x80 cm. Unique handmade artwork. Technique: Acrylic on canvas. Hand-signed on the front. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity. The artwork is shipped stretched on its wooden stretcher bars and carefully packaged in a protective box to ensure safe delivery.
Palimpsestus belongs to the Anagnorisis Series. In this work, I depict a male figure accompanied by shadows that suggest traces of former identities versions of ourselves that may no longer define us, yet continue to remain part of who we are.
The superposition of drawing, matter, and paint reflects this same idea. Layers are transformed without being completely erased; some forms become defined while others remain as traces. Like a palimpsest, each new inscription still carries the memory of those that came before.
___
Natalia Revelles López (b. 1983, Córdoba, Spain) is a contemporary Symbolist painter whose work explores identity, memory, and the relationship between the human mind and nature.
She studied Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts Alonso Cano in Granada, graduating in 2006. Her practice combines portraiture with natural and symbolic elements, employing expressive brushwork, rich textures, and mixed media to create psychologically charged and evocative imagery.
In recent years, her work has evolved toward an increasingly symbolic and introspective visual language, rooted in the exploration of the unconscious and the inner life. This research crystallized in her solo exhibition Reflection of the Unconscious, presented from September 4 to October 31, 2025, in the upper cloister of the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba, a historic site of significant heritage value. In this project, Natalia explores the image as an emotional mirror, inviting the viewer to confront their own layers of consciousness.
