The eyes are closed, the outside world seems to have vanished for a moment. The figure appears withdrawn and entirely at ease with itself—calm, but not detached.
The face emerges from many overlapping, partly blurred color fields. Borders dissolve as the closed eyes become the quiet center of the painting. Cool blues and greens meet warm skin tones and earthy hues.
I am interested in this brief moment of pause: when we do not have to look at anything, do not have to explain, and for a moment are just with ourselves.
