Description from the seller
Emmanuelle Pellet - At a Standstill (small format)
Acrylic painting on cardboard
H: 14.6 cm W: 18 cm
Unique piece, painted by hand, signed and numbered
The work illustrates an interior page from the children’s album/CD Le Roi Crapaud, by the Brothers Grimm, which is included with the shipment.
About the work:
In a golden, misty light, a princess in a pink dress throws her golden ball while running on a stone humpback bridge, a mischievous quotation from the famous Rembrandt’s Bridge.
In the foreground, a toad dressed in an orange jersey, seen from behind, reaches toward her with pleading arms. The scene illustrates the Grimm Brothers’ tale The Frog King — in which a princess must keep her promise to a batrachian creature.
The artist thus blends, with humor and tenderness, the grand Dutch landscape tradition with the wondrous imagination of popular tales, in an intimate format that invites close contemplation. A singular piece, imbued with poetry and a nod to erudition.
About the artist:
Historian of art by training, Emmanuelle Pellet studied at the École du Louvre and then at the Sorbonne, before passing the Agrégation in plastic arts (3rd rank). After several years of teaching, she joined the Louvre Museum as head of educational outreach.
Her career today feeds a personal body of work where painting mastery dialogues with a deep culture of imagery and art history. Her creations have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, London, Singapore and Mauritius, and have been the subject of numerous publications. They are now in private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and the Indian Ocean.
