An unsigned original Tibetan Buddhist thangka from China dating to the 1960s–1970s, titled Tibetaans-boeddhistische thangka, executed in mixed technique, depicting a religious mandala with frame; dimensions 97 x 67 cm (frame 97 x 76 cm).
Description from the seller
This Tibetan Buddhist thangka, from the 20th century, shows a richly worked mandala: a symbolic representation of the Buddhist universe that is used in meditation and ritual practice. The composition is built around a geometric center with four directions, surrounded by concentric circles and countless small Buddha figures. Around it unfolds a cosmic landscape with clouds, flowers, temple architecture and various Buddhist figures. The strong symmetry repeatedly guides the gaze back to the spiritual center of the representation.
The work connects to the ancient Tibetan tradition of painting thangkas, which continued according to traditional iconographic prescriptions well into the 20th century. Characteristic are the refined brushwork, the large number of small details and the intense palette of blue, red, green and golden-toned hues. The combination of religious figures, architecture and geometric patterns makes the presentation not only decorative, but above all a visual aid for contemplation and understanding the Buddhist cosmos.
Dimensions: 67 x 47 cm
Dimensions with frame: 97 x 76 cm
Viewing possible.
