Philippe Avenel is a French contemporary visual artist, painter and printmaker, born in 1953 in Rouen. Recognized for his abstract works, he lives and works mainly in Paris.

He entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris, from which he graduated in 1979. During his studies, he refined his skills in the studios of renowned master-mentors of the time: George Rohner (painting), Fiorini and Frélaut (engraving and printmaking techniques).

Specialized in painting, drawing and engraving, Philippe Avenel develops an abstract and dynamic visual language. His compositions are characterized by fragmented forms, geometric structures, and interlacings of vibrant colors (yellow, ochre, black, blue).

His career is marked by regular appearances in Paris galleries from the end of his studies:
- 1976: First notable exhibition in Paris with the collective “Regards sur la Drôme.”
- 1982: Exhibition at Galerie ADAC in Paris, a pivotal milestone that significantly contributed to launching his visibility in the art world.
- 1993: Recognition with a highly noted solo exhibition at Galerie Univers-Sept in Paris, which firmly established his reputation as an abstract painter.
