Achille Formis, pseudonym of Achille Befani (Naples, September 15, 1832 – Milan, October 28, 1906) was an Italian painter.
Achille Befani was born in Naples, where he began a career as a singer, abandoned in the early 1860s when, under the pseudonym Formis, he moved to Milan to attend the courses at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His oriental subjects were much appreciated, executed after returning from repeated journeys to the Near East; from the seventies he also produced landscapes inspired by the Lombard countryside and the surroundings of Lake Maggiore, becoming a respected interpreter of Lombard naturalism alongside painters such as Eugenio Gignous, his friend since the academy days. He took part in the annual Braidense exhibitions and in 1887 at the Venice National Artistic Exhibition, where he returned in 1899 with a view of the Mantuan countryside. He subsequently exhibited in Berlin in 1896 and in Munich in 1901 and 1906, the year of his death.
In 1899 he participated in the III International Art Exhibition of Venice.
