El Greco:
El Greco is one of the most important artists of late Mannerism and developed a distinctive pictorial language with highly elongated figures, dramatic lighting effects, and intense color. Born on Crete and later active in Italy and Spain, he fused Byzantine traditions with influences from the Venetian Renaissance and created works of great spiritual expressiveness. The painting "Laocoon," one of his few mythological subjects, was created around 1610–1614 and shows the Trojan priest and his sons fighting snakes in an emotionally charged, dynamic composition. His art has influenced far beyond his time and inspired modern artists such as Picasso or the Expressionists.
