Geheim Genootschap Tegen Westenwind by A.Y. Grünberg [Arnon Grunberg], a hardcover Dutch-language 24-page book published by Uitgeverij YVES in 1982 as a limited numbered edition signed by the author, in fraai condition.
Description from the seller
A.Y. GRÜNBERG – SECRET SOCIETY AGAINST WEST WIND. Amsterdam [New York], Yves Publishers [Kunst Editions], Sept. 1982 [1998]. 1st edition. [16] pp. Original linen. [Design: Pablo van Dijk]. Edition: 19 numbered and signed copies. Mini-book 12.7 x 7.8 cm., bound by Selma Manus van der Jagt (!) according to the colophon. Response to a call from the editorial staff of De blauw geruite kiel: 'Set up your own sect. Build your own association. Establish a foundation, create a club. Or engage in your own secret society. Form a bond or open a private limited company.' Complete with a registration card.
Publisher Vic van de Reyt once told about it:
(...) The long prelude to Grunberg’s leap into literature took place in secrecy, or at least this prehistory is less known. For the book with the Fassbinder‑borrowed title Ich will doch nur, dass ihr mich liebt, Vic van de Reijt immersed himself in the early years of his star-author. The publisher relates:
'You can even stage a blip from 1982. On July 31 of that year, in the youth column 'De blauw geruite kiel' of Vrij Nederland, appeared a story by A.Y. Grünberg, eleven years old. It was the submission with which he had entered a writing competition, titled 'Secret Society Against West Wind'. In 1998 a bibliophilic small edition was produced, in a print run of about twenty copies. It is an original notion to oppose the west wind, but the question remains whether one can retrospectively recognize an embryonic literary career in it.
This is ex. number 19
