Overview:Up for auction is a rare and highly collectible Lufft "Fluid Bezard" military / engineering prismatic compass in flawless NOS (New Old Stock) condition.
Manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany, by the renowned instrument maker G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH, this specific piece is an export version featuring English nomenclature ("Fluid Bezard" and "Direction").
Historical Context & Design:
The Bezard system, originally patented by the Austrian officer Johann Ritter von Bézard in 1902, became a legendary standard for European military navigation. While WWII-era models utilized a "dry" needle, this 1950s/1960s postwar "Fluid" modification was a major technological evolution. It was specifically engineered for military personnel, border guards (BGS), and NATO forces requiring rapid, high-precision orientation under extreme tactical conditions.
