Description from the seller
Original vintage exhibition poster from 1987, now almost 40 years old, for Arte Contemporáneo Portugués, held at the Museo Español de Arte Contemporáneo in Madrid in February–March 1987.
The poster features Untitled (Coty) (1917), a remarkable oil and collage on canvas by the Portuguese avant-garde artist Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887–1918). The original painting belongs to the Modern Collection of the Centro de Arte Moderna, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Coty is one of Souza-Cardoso's important late works. The composition combines fragmented planes, flowers, a playing card, a female figure, mirrors, hair clips, necklace beads and references to perfume, incorporating real materials into the painted surface. It reflects the artist's engagement with the European avant-garde, particularly Cubist approaches to fragmentation and collage.
The exhibition was organised by the Centro de Arte Moderna – Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, together with the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
This is an original 1987 period poster, not a modern reproduction, making it an almost 40-year-old piece of Portuguese and Spanish art-related graphic design.
The poster was edited by the Gabinete de Design do CAM (Centro de Arte Moderna) and composed and printed by Litografia Tejo, Lisbon.
A striking vintage piece for collectors of Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Portuguese modernism, Gulbenkian, museum exhibition posters, vintage graphic design and 1980s art ephemera.
