“Madonna di Lourdes – L’Immacolata della Grotta” is a work of intense spirituality dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Lourdes, depicted according to the traditional iconography linked to the apparitions that occurred at the Massabielle cave: a luminous figure, gathered in prayer and surrounded by symbols of Marian devotion.

The Virgin dominates the center of the composition, depicted standing with hands joined in prayer and the rosary descending delicately between the fingers. The face, serene and contemplative, communicates sweetness, purity, and maternal closeness, while the large luminous halo surrounding the head emphasizes the sacred dimension and immediately focuses the gaze on the figure.

Mary is wrapped in a long robe and in a veil that descends with elegance along the body, creating a tall and harmonious silhouette. The rosary with the crucifix, clearly visible at the center of the composition, assumes a fundamental role: it recalls prayer, meditation, and that Marian devotion that constitutes one of the elements most deeply linked to the Shrine of Lourdes.

Particularly significant is the inscription carved on the rock to the left of the Virgin: “Que soy era Immaculada Councepciou,” an expression traditionally associated with the Lourdes apparitions and translatable as “I am the Immaculate Conception.” The presence of these words makes the subject immediately recognizable and reinforces the devotional character of the entire work.

The scene is set inside the grotto, framed by rocks, vegetation and numerous roses. At the feet of the Madonna, other flowers accompany the figure and introduce symbolism linked to purity, grace, and Marian love. On the left, a small stream of water runs between the rocks and flows into the lower part of the scene, symbolically evoking the water of Lourdes and its deep spiritual meaning of hope and renewal.

The darkness of the grotto creates a strong contrast with the brightness of the Virgin. Mary seems almost to emerge from the shadows as a presence of light, while the radiant halo further accentuates this opposition between shadow and light. The overall effect is solemn yet delicate, capable of evoking silence, contemplation, and a deep sense of peace.
