The Disciples on the Road to Emmaus. Christ at Emmaus. Flemish school. Oil on panel. Overall dimensions including frame 84x117 cm. Dimensions without the frame 76x109 cm. The painting and the frame show signs of aging and wear (see images) but are in fairly good condition.

Atmospheric religious painting depicting the Emmaus travelers, a well-known scene from the New Testament. Centrally at the table stands the risen Christ, recognizable by the radiant halo around his head. He raises his right hand in a blessing gesture, while with his other hand he holds the bread. On either side sit the two Emmaus travelers, witnesses to the moment when Christ reveals himself to them during the meal. The painting thus depicts one of the most meaningful moments in the Emmaus story: the recognition of Christ in the breaking of the bread. In the background there is moreover a fourth figure visible, giving the scene extra depth.

The work is located in the depicted dark, profiled frame with a subtle gold inner edge, which nicely complements the warm colors of the scene.
