Description from the seller
Large sculptural bird vase in stoneware, made by the Swedish potter Tomas Anagrius in the 1960s.
Tomas Anagrius (born 1939) is a Swedish ceramicist trained at Konstfack, then at Rörstrand and Gustavsberg, before opening his own studio.
This 25 cm tall piece stands out for its highly stylized zoomorphic form: the cylindrical vase extends into a long neck forming the bird’s head. The natural-brown stoneware contrasts with a textured turquoise blue glaze.
The front face features an important circular geometric incised decoration, composed of two rows of relief motifs outlined by a glossy dark brown glaze. The whole offers a very beautiful contrast of materials and colors, typical of 1960s Scandinavian modernist ceramics.
The piece is wheel-thrown and bears under the base:
– the incised signature T. Anagrius
– the stamp HANDDREJAD ("hand thrown")
– the model number 306
– an old label Pörslin Ericsson, Lund.
Very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks visible. The slight surface irregularities are characteristic of artisanal craftsmanship.
