1951 Marigaux SML flute, nickel plating over nickel-silver, 66 cm long, 450 g, made in France, non-functioning and sold as-is for restoration, includes the original hard case (case requires restoration).
Description from the seller
Up for auction is a rare, vintage French flute manufactured by the legendary Parisian workshop Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire (SML). Stamped with the highly regarded Marigaux brand name, this piece represents the golden era of mid-century French woodwind craftsmanship.
* Key Technical Details & Provenance: Maker: SML (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire), Paris, France.
* Model/Brand: Marigaux.
* Serial Number: 1967 - Confirms production in early 1951, shortly after SML acquired the historic Louis Lot workshop.
* Material/Finish: High-quality nickel plating over nickel-silver (maillechort).
* Key Mechanisms: Closed holes (plateau style), beautiful vintage pointed key arms, original inline configuration, and distinct black composite lip-plate/embouchure guide.
* Case: Includes the original vintage hard case lined with original red plush silk velvet, bearing the golden "J. Marigaux, S.M.L., Paris" maker's logo inside the lid. The case will require restoration.
Condition: This instrument is being sold strictly "as-is" for restoration, parts, or a decorative project.
* Cosmetics: The body and keys show significant age-related tarnish and patina. There is a visible historic repair/solder patch on the main body tube (see close-up photos).
* Mechanics: The mechanisms appear complete, but the pads are old and heavily worn. The flute will require a full professional overhaul, including deep cleaning, repadding, oiling, and precise adjustments before it can be brought back to concert playing condition. Overall, this is an exceptional, character-rich project piece for vintage instrument collectors, professional restorers, or technicians looking for a rare transitional SML model, so don't miss out!
Included: case
Shipment: The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped by Deutsche Post (DHL) with tracking.
This item is being sold as-is as pictured, so please take a look at the photos carefully as they are part of the description.
