Polemic between two Leuven theologians: Martinus Steyaert (1647-1701) who opposes Jansenism and propagates submission to the pope, and Joannes Opstraet (1651-1720) who defends himself against 'false accusations' by Steyaert.

Joannes (Jan) Opstraet (1651-1720), originating from Beringen, studied theology at the H. Drievuldigheidscollege in Leuven, known for his Jansenist leanings. His doctorate was refused to him in 1698 for this reason.
