Adri Q - XL - Gato en Contrapunto Pop

Adri Q is a young Afro-Cuban artist born in Cuba who currently resides and works in Alicante, Spain, living and working in El Campello, Alicante, whose painting arises from the meeting of illustration, geometry, and a deeply contemporary sensibility. Through acrylic on canvas, she has developed a recognizable visual language, characterized by the use of intense colors, flat surfaces, geometric structures, and a rich succession of graphic patterns that turn each composition into a dynamic universe that is easily identifiable.

Her work moves freely between figuration and abstraction. Sometimes it begins from recognizable scenes — musicians, women, dancers, Mediterranean landscapes, animals or characters belonging to the collective imagination — and then fragments them and rebuilds them through chromatic blocks, visual rhythms, and decorative elements. In others, geometry takes on greater prominence and the figure seems to emerge from the color’s own structure.

One of the most interesting features of her work is precisely that ability to maintain a constant identity within a very broad thematic range. The Mediterranean, music, nature, literature, fantasy, and everyday life coexist within the same plastic universe. Her scenes can be intimate, playful, or contemplative, but they almost always retain a sense of optimism, movement, and luminosity.

Color does not function solely as a decorative element: it is one of the main emotional drivers of her painting. Deep blues, reds, yellows, purples, and turquoise are combined through direct contrasts and clearly defined surfaces, generating visually impactful compositions. In her musical works, for example, geometry seems to become rhythm; in her Mediterranean landscapes, light; and in the fantastical scenes, a door to an imaginary world.

The works currently circulating on Catawiki also show a good reception within the accessible contemporary art market. Her compositions have been selected by various experts on the platform, and pieces with themes as diverse as jazz, Mediterranean scenes, or fantastical figures maintain a visually recognizable identity.

That progressive recognition is particularly interesting in an artist who is still building her career. Collecting her work means approaching a young, decoratively powerful language that is already sufficiently defined to stand out with ease: a quality especially valuable in a contemporary landscape where developing a personal voice is one of the greatest challenges for any emerging artist.

Adri Q builds, ultimately, a cheerful, sophisticated, and slightly magical pictorial world: a place where everyday reality can transform into geometry, music, fantasy, and color.

This work, an acrylic on canvas in Neo-Pop style with strong influences from synthetic cubism and contemporary graphic art, presents the stylized portrait of a seated cat that captivates with its intense yellow gaze. The feline figure and the surrounding space are broken down into a complex network of geometric planes and fragmented shapes, each filled with a vibrant and saturated color palette dominated by blues, yellows, reds, and blacks. The sophistication of the piece lies in the intricate juxtaposition of various patterns and visual textures, such as dots of different sizes, wavy lines, short strokes, and even small ornamental motifs, creating a dynamic and enveloping visual rhythm. With a firm, clean black line delimiting each section, the painting achieves an exceptional balance between decorative abstraction and figurative representation, conveying a sense of lively playfulness and a pop aesthetic of great formal neatness.
