Description from the seller

Artwork n.654
Dimensions: 85,00 x 85,00 (cm)

I create paintings using acrylic paints and thousands of small pieces of recycled paper: everyday paper becomes art instead of ending up in the trash. In my latest works I have focused on the theme of women treated as objects (dolls) and too often victims of violence, and these are the last works realized.

Children should play and not experience the horrors of war...

The canvas is larger than the painted dimensions because the larger surface will be useful and necessary to tension the canvas on a frame. Born in 1974 I am self-taught.

After an initial period dedicated to sculpture there was a long stop lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I returned to the “two dimensions” for reasons of time and space, neglecting sculpture and dedicating myself to acrylic paintings. I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I have been pushing myself to paint faces of people, both imaginary and real.

For me painting is about "freezing time" in that exact moment; a painting of mine is often a faded memory and therefore my works are "worn, eroded by time". Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are glimpses of walls also eroded by time, with moss and fungi that – over time – grow on the surface.
Time, which passes inexorably, is the main theme of my works.

Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs clearly perceivable by touch as well as to the eye.

Recently, after several years in which my works were made from small pieces of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wooden discs arranged in lines and repeated grids with mathematical rigor that viewed up close seem to form a colorful abstract painting but the closer you get, the more a portrait emerges from the 768 painted wooden discs.

Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce women's faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report the fact that they are not their partner’s dolls and cannot be mistreated or worse, victims of violence.
