Description from the seller

BIG CITY DREAMS is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado that captures the energy, speed, and magnetism of the big city through an aesthetics inspired by vintage advertising posters, classic comics, and mid-20th-century American visual culture. The work turns an urban scene into a celebration of ambition, movement, and the infinite possibilities associated with large metropolitan centers.

The composition is dominated by a red classic car advancing forcefully down a New York Avenue. Its presence occupies the foreground as a symbol of freedom, progress, and optimism. Behind it unfolds the recognizable profile of Manhattan, with monumental buildings, urban signs, and an atmosphere charged with activity. The city is not merely a backdrop but a character of its own within the visual narrative.

The color palette combines intense reds, bright blues, deep blacks, and warm whites. These colors create a strong graphic contrast that recalls both vintage travel posters and 1950s commercial illustrations. The bold black outlines add dynamism and expressiveness, while the bursts of color suggest speed, noise, and continuous movement.

The title BIG CITY DREAMS works as a declaration of intent. More than a geographic reference, it speaks to the universal idea of the city as a place of opportunities, aspirations, and personal transformation. New York appears here as a collective symbol of all those places where people arrive pursuing projects, dreams, and new possibilities.

The presence of the classic car also introduces a nostalgic dimension. It evokes a time of urban optimism, wide avenues, bright lights, and confidence in the future. The work plays with that visual memory to reinterpret it from a contemporary sensibility, where nostalgia and modernity coexist in balance.

With a vibrant, accessible, and full-of-character aesthetic, BIG CITY DREAMS celebrates the fascination that large cities exert on the collective imagination. It is an image that speaks of adventure, movement, and desire, transforming an urban scene into a visual metaphor about the pursuit of broader horizons and the permanent lure of metropolitan life.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
