Description from the seller
Fascinating numbered edition 1424 on Bulky vellum and illustrated by Dubout, of one of the foundational editions of Western literature, chronicling the destinies that are at once comic, poetic, and deeply human for Don Quixote and his faithful companion Sancho Panza.
The tale features Alonso Quijano, a Manchean gentleman passionate about chivalric romances, whose excessive reading eventually distorts his perception of the world to the point of convincing him to become a wandering knight-errant under the name Don Quixote and to set out in search of adventures, battles, and opportunities to defend the weak and the oppressed.
Moved by the knightly ideal, the hero continually interprets reality through the lens of his readings, turning inns into castles, peasants into noble figures, herds into hostile armies, and above all turning windmills into formidable giants he undertakes to combat.
