Anquetil & M. de Norvins - Histoire de la France par Anquetil continuée par M. De Norvins et complétée jusqu'à la révolution de - 1855-1858

Five-volume illustrated collection of this vast historical synthesis intended to embrace the political, military, institutional and social evolution of France from its origins to the upheavals that lead to the February 1848 revolution -

Heir to Anquetil's historical work, the volume is extended and updated by de Norvins in order to carry the narrative far beyond the period initially treated, up to a time almost contemporary to its publication -

This continuity gives the whole ensemble a particularly interesting dimension, because the early volumes rest on a still largely classical conception of national history, centered on sovereigns, wars, great families and institutions, while the parts devoted to the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries give increasing prominence to political transformations, revolutionary movements and regime changes -
