Antique hand anvil for bench, made of cast iron/forged steel, estimated period 1850–1900, dimensions 43 cm × 11 cm × 13 cm, weight 16 kg, origin Italy, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Antique Desktop Anvil with Two Horns in Forged Iron/Steel – Late 19th / Early 20th Century (16 kg)
Splendid and elegant example of an antique table anvil (or bench anvil), dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. This tool, characterized by a beautiful elongated line and harmonious proportions, was originally intended for high-precision work such as that done by watchmakers, jewelers, coppersmiths, or small metal artisans.
The anvil features the classic double-horn configuration: a conical (round) horn for curves and gentle shaping, and a pyramidal (square) horn for right-angle folds. On the top surface there are both the square hole (hardie hole) and the round hole (pritchel hole), historically used to hold cutting tools or for punch work. The base is adorned with arched feet, typical of historic European metallurgical productions of the era.
The object preserves a magnificent patina of time that attests to its authenticity and historical use, showing light signs of surface wear and traces of oxidation that do not at all compromise its structural solidity. An exceptional antique piece, perfect both as a design industrial-loft decorative element and as a display piece for collectors of ancient handcrafted tools.
